A Slice of Columbus History
Dewey's Pizza was born in 1993 when founder Tom DeWeerd decided the Clintonville neighborhood of Columbus deserved a pizza worth talking about. Armed with family recipes, fresh local ingredients, and an unwavering belief that great pizza changes people's days, he opened the first Dewey's on a quiet Tuesday morning.
Word spread fast. The handmade dough, house-crafted sauces, and rotating seasonal toppings made Dewey's more than a pizza place — it became a Columbus landmark. Today, three decades later, that same spirit of craft and community drives everything we do, from our flagship location on W 5th Ave to every pizza that leaves our oven.
Locally Sourced Ingredients
We partner with Ohio farmers and regional suppliers to keep ingredients fresh and support our community.
Handcrafted Every Day
From dough stretched fresh each morning to sauces simmered in-house — no shortcuts, ever.
Community First
Over 30 years of supporting Columbus schools, nonprofits, and neighborhood events.
Our Mission & Values
Three pillars guide every decision we make — from the ingredients we source to the way we treat our team.
Uncompromising Quality
We never cut corners on ingredients, preparation, or presentation. Every pizza that leaves our kitchen meets the same standard as the first one Tom made in 1993.
Community Connection
We're not just a restaurant — we're a neighbor. We show up for Columbus through local partnerships, fundraisers, and making sure everyone has a seat at our table.
Creative Courage
Pizza is our canvas. We push boundaries with seasonal specials, rotating toppings, and bold flavor combinations that keep regulars excited and newcomers hooked.
Our Journey Through Time
From a single oven in Clintonville to Columbus's most beloved pizza destination.
The First Slice
Tom DeWeerd opens the original Dewey's Pizza on Clintonville's north side with a handwritten menu and a single brick oven. Lines form within the first week.
Growing the Family
Demand leads to a full kitchen expansion and the hiring of our first dedicated pastry and dough team. The legendary white garlic sauce debuts and instantly becomes a customer favorite.
Columbus Magazine's Best Pizza
Dewey's wins Columbus Magazine's "Best Pizza" award for the first time — an honor we've claimed multiple times since. The phone doesn't stop ringing for weeks.
W 5th Ave Flagship Opens
We open our flagship location at 1327 W 5th Ave in Grandview Heights — a larger, beautifully designed space that becomes the heart of the Dewey's experience.
Farm-to-Table Partnership
We formalize partnerships with five Ohio farms to supply fresh seasonal produce, cementing our commitment to local sourcing and sustainable ingredients.
30 Years & Going Strong
We celebrate three decades of handcrafted pizza with a month-long community celebration, limited-edition menu items, and a commitment to the next 30 years of great food.

Our Core Values
These aren't words on a wall — they're the principles that guide every team member, every ingredient choice, and every interaction with our customers.
Integrity in Every Ingredient
We use what we say we use. No fillers, no substitutes, no compromises. If an ingredient isn't up to standard, we find a better one.
Sustainability Matters
We reduce waste, compost in our kitchens, use eco-friendly packaging, and prioritize suppliers who share our environmental values.
Respect for Everyone
From kitchen staff to delivery drivers to every customer who walks through our door — every person deserves dignity and care.
Always Improving
We listen to feedback, adapt our menu, and challenge ourselves to keep getting better — because good enough was never the goal.
